United States - Custom Shibori Art
Shibori is an ancient tie-dye technique. Using a needle and dental floss (yes, you read that correctly, dental floss), I stitched the outline of the United States and dye the fabric in indigo.
The stitching process takes 2-3 hours. It’s a meditative process. I can’t help but think about the states I visited while I am stitching around them. The work I do allows me the privilege to meet the most wonderful people. Some people who have been in the states their whole lives and some who have not. The length of their residence does not matter, because we would not be whole without them.
After I stitch the outline of the United States. I pull the floss tight.
A remarkable and dynamic design is created in indigo only when these materials work collaboratively. When the stitch and fabric work in tandem with unrelentingly support. This is how we shape a better America, with a welcoming embrace.
100% of the profits from every commission is donated to the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Right.
*Notes on Shibori and the indigo dyeing process.
Every shibori piece will be a complete and unique work of art. No two works will be identical.
Commissioned works take 4-6 weeks to complete.
Indigo has a wonderful and beautiful lifespan. Over time you will notice subtle shifts in the blue hue as the indigo ages. To slow the indigo aging process, I suggest hanging the artwork away from direct sunlight.
Commissions by State are available upon request.
